Now I have designed the basic idea for the DVD label Via my original design I am going to be moving onto the designing and creation of my media logos. First of all I thought about ideas for the media logos itself. My overall idea, was that I would base them based on items that are related to films itself, here were a few ideas which I had in mind:
- Film Slate
- Movie Tickets
- Director Chair
- Movie Reel
- Movie Camera
- Cinema Screen
- Popcorn
Now I had these ideas, I started to think about putting pen to paper started to design a couple of logo designs. I did think come up with a couple of ideas for the logos based on the ideas above. For instance there is one idea was where I would make a movie reel which is coming out of it case and twists, to make look more sophisticated and different. I would then have the name of the company follow the outline of the twisted reel.
My second design was also based on the ideas from above. This design is more simple than the movie reel. This design would look like a little badge design where a movie directors chair would be the main image in the middle of a circle. I would then have the name of the company inside the circle but around the chair constantly going round till they meet at the start point.

Drawn Media Logo Designs |
I created one of these design in illustrator using the tools provided. I looked at this design and didn't think much of it. This was because I felt that it looked really tacky and really unprofessional. I am not sure whether it is because I am a perfectionist or whether I just do not have the skills to use the tools I did to create the design in the first place. I am not sure, but this design is not very well drawn, you can tell where lines are not smooth. I know people will just say it has a hand drawn look to it, however if this was going to actually be a proper logo design for a media company then if I was them then I would discard. This design I feel does not show the skills that I know I have, but I do struggle using the pen tool and brush tool free hand, so all I can say is that I did not do a bad job considering. However, I decided to look for other ideas to create the logos.

Reel Movies Logo Designs and Created in Illustrator |
So, I decided to look online for some tutorials which I could use to self-teach myself and create my ideas for media logos for the DVD Label. I had a look at a few which I thought would be appropriate for the logos and fits within the ideas which I originally had but also look really professional and really shows some skills which I do possess.
Tutorial One - Film Slate

These are the tutorials which I have found online. What I like about these tutorials is that they fit within my design ideas. Also, I think they look really professional and well designed, they do not look as tacky as the one which I have just designed and created above. I feel that they have a really good characteristic look to them. You can also tell that I have put a lot of effort into the design, but also will be showing the skills that I have in order to create and actually follow the design to a tee. Obviously, I did not completely follow the design all the way because I changed the original lettering on the design so that it would fit for the purpose which I wanted, which was media logos.
The only problem with them would mainly be with the fact that they are vector based images and will stand out against the background which I had planned for the design background. In its own way I feel this is good because as I said they will stand out, but they would not blend very will with the background. So, I am not sure what I will do with them once they are on the paper background, but knowing me I would most likely leave them as they are on the design.
