DVD Label Design Process

Now I have had a look at some of the current DVD labels and what they initial. I can put pen to paper and design my DVD label. As mentioned in the previous blog, this design will be based on colours, theme and ideas which are based on the DVD inlay, but in a vector style form.

DVD Label Design
For this DVD label design I have tried to make the design to have a minimalistic look, but look quite big in itself. So, I decided to keep some of the elements from the DVD inlay for instance the paper background. I kept this part of the inlay because I wanted the design to look like an actual drawing of the main character. I thought the old paper looks really effective on the DVD inlay and worked with the splatter effect which I used on there, that I thought it would work well with the vector drawing image which would look like an ink drawing.

Another element I decided to keep was the splatter effect, but it in a different why due to the difference in tools between illustrator and photoshop. I wanted to keep this element because I felt that this would add a bit more drama and a bit more effect to the drawing idea, make it look like ink splatters maybe came from the paint brush with too much ink or just general splatter effect.

I also kept the idea of the faded title. This was because I really liked it within my DVD inlay and so I wanted to have it within the design for the label. I feel this will add an extra bit of the old and worn theme into the design.

I will also be adding logos onto the design both already created and one which I will be creating which will also make the DVD label look like a real DVD label as these logos are mandatory. The media company logos which I will be designing and creating myself will be done within Illustrator as requested by the brief. I will try my best to make these logos look as professional as I can.

The main image itself I want to create an ink image out of the tools in illustrator. I wanted to create a ink image instead of using the same image I have used on photoshop. If I could have recreated this image in Illustrator I would likely would have. However, looking at the tools within illustrator I would not be able too. However, I can still create the splatter effect. I want the outline of the image to look rough to make it look more home drawn.
