DVD Label Evaluation

I have now completed the DVD label which I have designed also with the logos which I have also created. Overall, I am happy with how the design has come out, however, I do feel that I could have done more for the design.

DVD Label
What I like about the design was that it follows what other companies have done with their designs and kept the theme and colour scheme from the DVD Inlay cover. For instance, I have kept the paper theme from the DVD Inlay and used that within the DVD label design. I have also kept the idea of ink, which I then tried to use and create an image of the head of the main character and make it look like an ink drawing. I quite liked this idea, even though when you look at other companies they use the images on their front cover. However, I had to improvise due to the assignment brief as the assignment wished for a vector based image as well as imported imagery. I was pretty happy with it because it allowed me to explore the tools which I needed to use and allowed me to think how I could apply them to my design. Which, is another reason I like this design because it was a really simple design which allowed me to use all of the tools which was required within the brief.

This leads onto the main image itself which was the main reason I liked the design. I was very worried about how this would turn out, because as mentioned above I wanted to create a design which had the link of ink and pages. I was not sure how this design was going to turn out; however, it did turn out really well, which I was happy with. I really liked how it actually looks like an ink drawing with the scruffier outline around the hair line. I also like the idea of adding a little bit of white to edging, I thought this brought out the black and design really well almost gave a worn edging feeling to the design as well, which is a bonus.

I like the minimalistic look of the design, because there is so much going on the DVD inlay I did not want to overpower the DVD label. However, I don't feel that this design really goes above and beyond what I could do with the design, or I could have even designed a label which did. The only items which really show what I could do do was the Media Logos, and yet they are so small on the disc, that it is not worth looking at. What I mean is that, no one is going to look at the logo design and go, wow they really put a lot of effort into the design as I said because the logo is small. Whereas with the main image, even thought I am happy with it, it kind of looks like an image I have just knocked up in paint. Which is not the impression I really want to give. However, I was not sure how I could improve the design any more; so, I just left it as it was.

I will now be posting step by steps of how I created the final design.
